Marijuana and Sex Drive

Marijuana and Sex DriveFor years now educators (not sure who these people are) have claimed that Marijuana can reduce sex drive. Recent further exploration around the research has revealed one 40-year-old report that claims marijuana reduces testosterone levels by 50%. This chemical change was assumed to impact users’ libidos as this hormone is essential in triggering sexual arousal for men and women.

Another study published in the Journal of Sex Research found mixed reactions among the  interviewed marijuana users regarding the drug’s impact on their libidos:

over two-thirds reported increased sexual pleasure and satisfaction with marijuana use. About half of both sexes also reported increased sexual desire while using marijuana. Emotional closeness and physical enjoyment of snuggling were also enhanced

Other studies have reported similar feedback with half claiming marijuana increased their libidos, reduced inhibitions, boosted touch sensitivity, and enhanced erotic pleasure. Those that disagreed mentioned the drug made them so introspective that they became disconnected them from their partner.

As with many things in life the conclusion seems to be that marijuana offers a different experience for each individualal person (perhaps like alcohol). THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) is unique among drugs as it has consistently antithetical effects on different users’ sex lives. Just like certain fetishes, some find marijuana enhances sex while others say the opposite.
