Cambodians enjoy what they believe to be a heart-healthy drink with libido boosting and aphrodisiac powers: a tarantula cocktail! You read that correctly, it’s a noxious mixture of rice wine, jack fruit, and spider entrails, with the spider being alive until he ends up in the glass. Mmm, that sounds nice!
Cambodia has enjoyed a successful spider-food trade since the 70’s, but it’s only now that confused Westerners are availing themselves of the opportunity to join the friendly locals on spider-hunting tours and try the snacks (either in drink form or fried). Would you try the local dish of choice?
As for us, we, uh… we think we’ll pass, thanks and rather than inbibe a pulpy mass of spider entrails we’ll stick with the easy way and try Maxidus!
